Prime Minister Narendra Modi took the virtual mode today to address the people as he campaigned for the second phase poll of Manipur while Union Home minister Amit Shah arrived in Imphal and addressed a party election rally held at Devi Mandap Lampak, Heirok Part – II in Thoubal district.

In his address, Modi criticized the Congress while alleging the latter party for "encouraging separatism" in the state and other northeast states.

He said that instead of focusing on the development of the northeastern states, the Congress, during its prolonged rule, encouraged separatism in the region.

"Now the people of the region realized the true face of the Congress and came to BJP that works for the development of the region", Modi also said.

"The Congress had not only destroyed the region with its divide and rule policy but also looted the states", he alleged.

The Prime Minister reiterated that BJP promised to set up a medical institute of AIIMS standard and said that it will relieve the people of the state from spending a large amount of money in going outside the state for medical treatment.

He also spelled out various plans and projects which the BJP would like to implement if the party is voted to power again.

Likewise,  Shah criticized the Congress party, saying that the then Congress government led by O Ibobi Singh had even failed to provide tap water connection to 5% households.

He said that the Congress had ruled the state for 15 years but did nothing for the welfare of the people. "Only 5 % of households get tap water connections all these years.  This is a hard evidence", he also said.

"However, in the last five year rule of the BJP-led coalition government tap water connections were provided to more than 57% households", he claimed.

While hitting back at the allegation of the Congress over the hike in the prices of goods particularly on vehicle fuels and LPG, Amit Shah said that people would not forget the artificial price hike in the state due to the frequent bandhs and blockades on the national highways.

“I would like to remind you Ibobiji that during your tenure the price of LPG shot up to Rs 3000 (a refilled cylinder), Rs 300 per liter of petrol,” he said.

In the second and final phase of the election, voting will take place in 22 assembly constituencies spread over 10 districts of Manipur.
