Mokokchung, August 14 (MExN): Mokokchung College of Teacher Education (MCTE), Yimyu, inaugurated its new academic building on Friday, with Nagaland Minister for Higher Education and Tourism, Temjen Imna Along, gracing the occasion as the special guest.
Describing the new infrastructure as a “big achievement” not only for the institution but also for the people of Nagaland, the Minister emphasised that institutions are defined not by their physical structures but by their ideology and resilience.
“Institutions are not just the buildings that you see. Institution is the ideology of resilience that you prove again and again,” he said, adding that despite Nagaland’s small population of about two million against India’s 1.5 billion, the State must continue to strive for excellence and create opportunities for its people.
“We choose to work hard to bring our people up to the level where intellectuals, academicians, professors and scientists would emerge out of us,” he observed, underscoring the role of perseverance and collective effort in building a stronger future.
The Minister also announced that a 40-bedded girls’ hostel would be constructed under the PM-USHA scheme, further expanding the institution’s facilities. He urged that future infrastructure development focus on quality and effective utilisation of space, ensuring classrooms and other amenities are put to meaningful use.
Earlier, the programme began with the Minister unveiling the inaugural plaque, followed by a dedicatory prayer by Rev Temsuwati, Pastor of MTBA. Student-teachers presented a special song titled “Tangula Tasen (New Breath)”.
In her Salutatory Oration, Dr T Alemla Longkumer, Principal of MCTE, traced the college’s journey from its inception in 2012 at the DIET campus to the acquisition of three acres of land in 2013. She expressed gratitude to the Khensa Village Council and Yimyu Ward council for their continued support and protection, which she said had created a safe and conducive environment for faculty, staff and student teachers.
Dr Alemla noted that the new building was made possible through the vision and support of the Minister and other stakeholders, and stressed the need for continued backing to develop MCTE into an excellent professional institution catering not only to the local community but also to student teachers from other districts and states.
Short speeches were delivered by Dr Hukato Swu, Joint Director (Planning, Budget & Accounts) from the Directorate of Higher Education, while Er Vikhepu Yeptho, Executive Engineer, Public Works Department (Housing), presented the technical report on the construction. The event, chaired by Sekulu Nienu, Assistant Professor at MCTE, concluded with a vote of thanks by Kerilhusa Peseyie, Assistant Professor and IQAC Coordinator.
