MDFA trophy 2018 kicks off

The MDFA Trophy 2018 kick started today at Imkongmeren Sports Complex with Er. Zale Neikha, Advisor Youth Resources & Sports, Government of Nagaland, gracing the inaugural function as the Chief patron. Seventeen football clubs will be vying for the trophy.  

Speaking as the Chief patron, Er. Zale Neikha acknowledged the achievements of Dr. T. Ao and talked about how the PDA government has introduced various programmes in commemoration of the centenary celebration of Dr. T. Ao.  

He also said that the government is focusing on development of infrastructure in the sports field so as to encourage young talents.  

The chief patron also highlighted on the Nagaland Sports policy and the reservation of job opportunities to sportsperson excelling in national and international level and also medal winners in different national and international sports events.  

Neikha also added that the Nagas are second to none and they have the talent to excel in sports, but due to lack of discipline and proper training, we remain complacent with small achievements rather than aiming for greater heights.  

The welcome address at the opening ceremony was given by S Bendang Aier, Convenor, MDFA organising committee.  

Kimlong SA and OCYU draw 1-1

The first match of the tournament between Kumlong Sporting Association and OCYU ended in a draw.   The first match of the tournament started on an equal footing, with the first half ending in a goalless draw.   In the 47th minute, Moazulu of OCYU scored the first goal of the tournament.  

The counter attack was vicious on the part of Kumlong SA who tirelessly tried to equalize the goal.  

Kumlong SA scored an equaliser in the 59th minute by Imnatoshi.  

The second half saw some more serious play. Moasanen of OCYU was given the first yellow card of the tournament.
