There was a twist to the case involving the 19 year-old, who was reported missing on May 26.  The missing person, Pusha Khiamniungan allegedly drowned in the Dhansiri river two days before a missing report was filed with the police.

As per the complaint filed with the police, Pusha left his home in 5th Mile, on May 24, in the afternoon on his scooty. He did not return. His parents subsequently filed a missing report on May 26.

The information was revealed to the police, on June 2, by a friend of the missing person. The unnamed friend told police interrogators that Pusha drowned while taking a dip in the Dhansiri river on May 24. The two friends were on an outing to the bank of the Dhansiri that fateful day. As told to the police, the spot fell somewhere between Murise and Tsithrongse villages. Why the friend withheld the information remains unexplained.

After the information was divulged, the police and State Disaster Response Force personnel launched a search operation downstream of the place where Pusha reportedly drowned. The search was called off in the late afternoon, to be resumed further downstream the next day.

Meanwhile, the police received information from Assam in the evening, today, about the recovery of an unidentified dead body purportedly from the Dhansiri river by the Karbi Anglong police a few days back. The body, believed to be of the missing person, was found on May 26 and taken to Diphu for post-mortem, and later reportedly disposed by the police. Information, citing official sources, said that the body was confirmed to be of the missing person.

However, the Dimapur Police Commissionerate was yet to make an official statement.
