A long-neglected road junction connecting several colonies and institutions in Wokha district is set to undergo repair through the personal initiative of MLA Y Mhonbemo Humtsoe.

The road stretch, located near the Mother Church area, serves as an important junction for daily commuters, students, churchgoers and residents of several colonies. Local leaders said the road had remained in poor condition for years, causing inconvenience to the public.

Addressing the media, Ajamo Kikon expressed gratitude to the MLA for initiating the repair work.

He described the stretch as one of the most significant road junctions in Wokha district, stating that it connects multiple colonies across the town and provides access to the Mother Church and the Wokha Town Baptist Church, with roads on both sides linking to the national highway.

According to him, the uphill route from the church leads to the Superintendent of Police office and the upcoming Deputy Commissioner’s office, while another route connects New Colony, DBHSS School, Wokha Village and several other colonies.

Kikon said the road network benefits nearly seven to eight colonies and is extensively used by the public on a daily basis.

Recalling the prolonged inconvenience faced by residents, he said the damaged condition of the road had created difficulties for commuters for several years, but expressed hope that the repair work would bring relief to the public.

He also urged residents to collectively maintain the road after completion of the repair work, cautioning that even quality infrastructure deteriorates without proper care.

Highlighting waste disposal issues, he said dumping waste into drains often blocks water flow, causing overflow onto roads and accelerating damage. He appealed to the public to adopt responsible waste management practices and support developmental initiatives undertaken for the welfare of society.

Former chairman of Likya Colony, Jenithung Erui, said the repair work was not a government-funded project but was being undertaken through the personal effort of the MLA.

Expressing gratitude on behalf of the colony and residents of Wokha, he appreciated Humtsoe for addressing a long-standing concern of the locality.

Erui also highlighted the hardships faced by elderly residents, students and commuters, particularly during Sundays and church-related gatherings, because of the poor condition of the road.

Ward-5 Town Councillor Nzanthung Lotha informed that the road stretch from the Mother Church towards DBHSS would be repaired.

He appealed to commuters to bear with temporary inconvenience during the repair period and sought public cooperation.

Lotha said preliminary work had already commenced and repair activities would begin in full swing from Monday. He added that the work was expected to be completed within a week.
