MMC cautions vegetable traders against overcharging, fixes price rates

Mokokchung, August 12 (MExN): The Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC) has issued a strict warning to all vegetable vendors, shopkeepers, and traders within its jurisdiction to adhere strictly to municipal-approved rates, cautioning against artificial price hikes under the guise of poor road conditions.

In a press release issued on August 11, the MMC noted that certain shopkeepers were reportedly charging prices above the rates fixed by the Council, taking undue advantage of current transportation difficulties and road conditions affecting essential commodities.

Firmly rejecting these justifications, the Council stated that transportation hurdles cannot be used as an excuse to arbitrarily inflate vegetable prices. All vendors and traders have been directed to sell vegetables strictly at the notified rates and to prominently display the approved price list at their establishments for public transparency.

The MMC cautioned that any shopkeeper or vendor found violating the fixed rates or overcharging consumers will face disciplinary action under applicable municipal regulations.

Further, the Council urged the general public to remain vigilant and report instances of rate violations or price gouging. Consumers have been requested to submit complaints to the MMC with relevant details, including the shop's name and location, along with supporting evidence such as receipts or photographs where possible.

Seeking the cooperation of both traders and citizens, the MMC reiterated its commitment to ensuring fair pricing, maintaining transparency, and safeguarding consumer interests.
