Mobile Medical Unit for Kiphire district launched

KOHIMA, MARCH 26 (MExN): The Government of Nagaland – Swasti State Dissemination meeting on Social Protection & Mobile Medical Unit Interventions, supported by TATA AIG General Insurance Company cum launching of Mobile Medical Unit for Kiphire was held at the Nagaland Health Protection Society Conference Hall, Directorate of Health & Family Welfare, Kohima on March 26.

Principal Director, Health & Family Welfare, Dr E. Motsuthung Patton who was the special guest said the Mobile Medical Unit (MMU) was started with a vision to reach the populations living in remote, difficult areas and those communities cut off from main health services due to geography and climatic condition.

He stated that the MMU is an important part of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare’s efforts to achieve universal health coverage.

Currently there are 11 functional MMU in the state provided with Gypsy, manpower, doctors and at present there are 5 MOs operating in Kohima, Mokokchung, Dimapur, Wokha and Zunheboto. 

He added  that advertisement for the post of other MMU, MO, one GNM, one Lab tech and two drivers have been circulated however no applicants has come forward. He stated that each MMU is directed to conduct minimum 12 camps in a month, and the deployment of MMU should be priotized in those area or village where there is no functional health facility. The ASHAs and VHSNC should carry out the function of community mobilization, ensuring that people who need services are informed of the MMU schedule, he urged.

The Principal Director highlighted that the department has an MOU with Swasti and TATA AIG for implementing the MMU activities in Zunheboto district and similar activities would be carried out in Kiphire district. 

Towards this, he requested the CMO, Kiphire to coordinate the planning and scheduling of the MMU activities. He hoped that this initiative will play a vital role in addressing the health challenges and the upliftment of the community.

PowerPoint presentation on TATA AIG CSR initiatives was given by Deputy Vice President & Lead CSR & Sustainability, TATA AIG General Insurance Company Ltd and SP & MMU Intervention accomplishments by Rambabu from Swasti the Health Catalyst.

An overview of MMU Program in Nagaland was highlighted by Mission Director, NHM, DoHFW Nagaland, Dr Akuo Sorhie. Field experience sharing was heard from Neikule and Manpang, both from the Entrepreneurs Associates (tEA). 

The programme was conducted by Joint Director (Planning) DoHFW, Nagaland, Dr Kikameren Longkumer, while the welcome address was proposed by Director Swasti, Bhoopathy and vote of thanks by Manpang, from The Entrepreneurs Associates (tEA). The ceremonial launch of the MMU was conducted by the Principal Director.
