DIMAPUR, JUNE 26 (MExN): Modern College, Piphema organised its annual Freshers' Day on June 26 at the college indoor stadium to welcome the new batch of students.

The programme was compered by Grace Gonmei and Mathibo Lawrence. It began with an invocation by Seyievino Meyase, President of the Modern College Evangelical Union (MCEU), followed by a welcome address by Lhingmoichong Singson of BA 3rd Semester. Students of BA 3rd Semester also presented a welcome song. Vimesano Vielie delivered a speech on behalf of the freshers, while Lamgousang of BA 5th Semester gave a special presentation.

The special guest, Paweü Kayina, Founder of Moneybar, encouraged students to overcome their fears, continue learning and develop new skills. Drawing from her personal experiences, she also highlighted the importance of financial literacy, urging students to distinguish between needs and wants, manage money wisely and cultivate the habit of saving. Representatives of the Piphema Students' Union also attended the programme as special invitees.

 

A highlight of the event was the Mr and Ms Fresher 2026 competition, which was held in two rounds. During the introduction round, contestants introduced themselves while showcasing their traditional attire, while the final round tested their confidence, communication skills and presence of mind.

Following the judges' evaluation, Diethozo Mezhü and Sepong Sonla were crowned Mr and Ms Fresher 2026 respectively. Ghokivi K Achumi and Seketuno Dahou were named Mr and Ms Multimedia, while Keneinguzo Keyho and Avino Khesoh received the Mr and Ms Personality titles.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Vileto Kuotsu of BA 5th Semester, followed by the benediction by Vedulü Lohe, Vice President of MCEU. Light refreshments were served to the attendees.

An informal session was held in the afternoon featuring artist, singer and musician Shau Evans as the guest artist, who entertained the gathering with a musical performance.
