Mokokchung, August 12 (MExN): In a major arms haul, police in Mokokchung district have seized a cache of weapons, including two AK rifles, and arrested two persons.
Mokokchung Police intercepted a suspected vehicle, a Honda Amaze (Registration No. AS-07C-8639), during a routine check at Tzusapang sector under Mokokchung village around 1.40 am on July 30, a police spokesperson said.
The vehicle was coming from Shamator via Chari junction and was headed towards Dimapur when it was stopped, the Assistant Superintendent of Police and PRO of Mokokchung said.
On checking the vehicle, police recovered police recovered two AK rifles with three magazines (country made), three .32 pistols with three magazines (country made), and one live round of .32 ammunition, the officer said.
One person, identified as Khumkiumong Yimkhiung (42), was apprehended in connection with the recovery, police said. During further investigation, a co-accused, identified as Kone Mary of Kohima, was arrested on August 3, the officer added.
A criminal case has been registered at Police Station-I, Mokokchung, and further investigation into the matter is underway, the ASP and PRO said.
