Kohima, August 6 (MExN): Nagaland Lok Sabha MP Supongmeren Jamir on Thursday raised a Matter Under Rule 377 in Parliament, urging the Government of India to immediately and transparently implement the Naga Political Agreements, stating that prolonged delays have created uncertainty among the Naga people.
According to a press release issued by the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC), Jamir referred to the Framework Agreement signed between the Government of India and the NSCN (IM) on August 3, 2015, and the Agreed Position signed with the Working Committee of the Naga National Political Groups (WC, NNPGs) on November 17, 2017.
He noted that "11 years have passed since the signing of the Framework Agreement and nearly nine years since the Agreed Position," but their implementation remains pending. He said the delay has led to "uncertainty and frustration" among the Naga people.
Jamir urged the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister to expedite the implementation process, asserting that "the agreements should be upgraded to implementation." He maintained that since the Government of India has repeatedly stated that negotiations have concluded, the focus should now shift towards honouring the commitments made through timely implementation.
He also cautioned that continued delays could result in "growing public dissatisfaction and the emergence of more aggrieved groups," which could adversely affect the peace process.
Jamir said that whatever is ultimately implemented "must be transparent," ensuring that the Naga people are fully informed and that any final settlement reflects their aspirations and interests, the release added.
