Naga Hoho discourse on corruption, development

It is not easy to define corruption. But in a narrow sense, corruption is mostly concerned with “bribery” and it takes several forms. Corruption is a global phenomenon and it is omnipresent. Corruption has progressively increased and is now rampant in our society.
Corruption in India is a consequence of the nexus between Bureaucracy, politics and criminals. India is now no longer considered a soft state. It has now become a consideration state where everything can be had for a consideration. Today, the number of ministers with an honest image can be counted on fingers. At one time, bribe was paid for getting wrong things done but now bribe is paid for getting right things done at right time. Indian administration is tainted with scandals and now India is among 55 of the 106 countries where corruption is rampant
Today corruption has become an inevitable issue in Nagaland. Corruption is seen in almost every part of Nagaland. Viewing from working post regard almost each one has dipped himself into this sinful act. “As you sow, so shall you reap” is almost violated everywhere. Evil consideration of money as everything actually depraves oneself. “Be shameless and enjoy” slogan has been encouraged in our society. No one realizes the suffering and pain of another. “HONESTY is the best policy” is an old and outdated saying today.
Eradication of corruption will reduce the problem to great extent. Many Nagas are really patriotic. Love for one’s country, destine of sacrificing for motherland can only syncope the corruption today. We feel that the young generation of the state must strive hard for eradicating corruption and other problem to make our state prosperous. Patriotism within individual must be arisen. My Country is my Home ideas must be cultivated. Harmful mosquito and flies are destroyed when dared to get inside our home, this same feeling must be developed for our society too or we will be always developing, not developed. Today Nagas are demanding for self determination from India, but now is servicing corruption, ignorance, etc. we are independent under the slavery of weeds of corruption.
The Naga Hoho taking into consideration the urgent needs of our society makes a clarion call to all concerned .We feel that it is our outmost duty to point out loop holes in our system and society. Therefore we appeal to the state government machineries and institutions to offer a clean and an efficient governance and take steps to eradicate corruption and nepotism at all levels and make a people friendly government.
Understanding the ominous problem of unemployment, the Naga Hoho urges once again the state authority to open and give more avenues to our local contractors (builders and suppliers) instead of using the services of outsiders. On the other hand, we also call upon the Naga entrepreneurs to come forward and prove that they are efficient and honest in their undertaking.
To establish a new village or for human settlement in any place, people first look for availability of water in that particular area. Because water is the most essential element for human survival, without which it is unfit to settle. The major health problems for human being are Diarrhoeal diseases, parasitic infestation, infective hepatitis, entric fever and other water borne diseases due to non-potable drinking water and bad sanitation. Like for instance, Kohima town is surrounded by hills and mountains where water is available abundantly and it is only few kilometers away. We understand the problem is not easy which can not solve within a short period of time and need huge budget for it, but should we leave this problem as it is for the sake of budget? We are fully convinced that the bigger problems lay with the so-called water source owners with age-old traditional concept.
The Naga Hoho fervently appeal to all the water source owners in every District Headquarters to be more humane in their approach and thinking and generously provide safe drinking water to fellow citizens in the villages and towns. Let’s make every Township in Nagaland a model, better and attractive place to live in with bountiful water sources.
