Kohima (MExn): Even the kitchen and cooking sheds in the 250 bedded Naga Hospital is currently crowded with patients/attendants where all the available spaces have been occupied by them despite the concerned authority restricting occupation of the spaces which are solely for cooking. The authority disallows patients and attendants from cooking within the hospital premises. However, some people are violating the regulations
Dr. L. Angami, Director, Naga Hospital Authority told The Morung Express. “They are not complying with our orders” Dr. Angami regretted adding that in a recent notification, all the patients were directed to avail the hospital diet or bring food from outside for patients and attendants. The Director said the authority would strictly enforce regulations by removing the kitchen sheds. Without giving any specific date, he said, “we will start it early.”
Bringing smile to patients, the Director said the hospital authority was contemplating introducing ‘hotel management’ within the hospital by introducing canteen system shortly.
The diet department will manage this canteen, he added. “What to do. I have to cook from here,” a lady attendant told The Morung Express. She occupies a small space in a kitchen shed. Waste sacks and thick papers are being used to cover the areas in absence of the concrete wall. Many sheds are without doors. Another aged person from a remote place said that although the kitchen sheds were in bad shape, he was compelled to use it, as he does not have any relatives here. Another attendant with a baby expressed difficulties to bring food from outside saying that transportation would cost her Rs. 100 to 150 daily. She said she preferred to cook from the sheds itself. “We have to cook on rotation basis,” another attendant said. He also informed that it was very difficult to get the space. Meanwhile, the Director said that he had already petitioned the District administration to provide City Bus to ply between Naga Hospital and main town. However, response to that effect is yet to emerge, he added.
