‘Naga Village Formation’ book launched in Wokha

A book titled ‘Naga Village Formation,’ authored by Dr Libemo Kithan, Associate Professor, Department of History, Mount Tiyi College (MTC), was formally launched at a gathering held at his residence in Wokha town on Saturday. Y. Mhonbemo Humtsoe, MLA, Government of Nagaland, attended the programme as the special invitee.

Addressing the gathering, Humtsoe described the publication as more than an academic contribution, terming it “a labour of love for the people.” He said the book preserves the stories, structure and soul of Naga heritage, adding, “Through his research, he has built a bridge that connects our past to the future.” Acknowledging the author’s dedication, he encouraged the community to continue organising such events to motivate young educated youth to pursue research, noting that scholarly work enriches future generations.

Sharing the background of the publication, Dr Kithan stated that the book is an abstract of his PhD thesis titled “Dynamics in Village Formation among the Lotha Nagas, with Special Reference to Wokha Village.” He informed that the current volume is a refined version of his research, which includes 12 publications, and highlighted that his study identified five diverse migrations of Lotha villages that shaped the present settlement patterns.

The book was blessed by Rev Dr Renbi Rangthank, Executive Secretary, LBCA, while MLA Humtsoe unveiled the cover.

Short speeches were also delivered by Dr Bweyhunle Khing, Principal, Mount Tiyi College; Orenthung Lotha, NCS, Commissioner & Secretary, Government of Nagaland and President, Lotha Officers Association; and Dr Renthungo Patton on behalf of MTCTA.

Earlier, the book was officially released on November 17, 2025, at Bodoland University, Kokrajhar, Assam during the 44th session of the North East India History Association (NEIHA) by Biswajit Daimary, Speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly, in the presence of Rabiram Narzary, Executive Member, Bodoland Territorial Council, NEIHA officials, scholars and academicians from across the country.
Family members, friends, faculty of MTC, members of Wokha Town Council, Village Council, students and women organisations from Wokha village attended the event.
