Kohima, August 11 (MExN): The Directorate of Fire and Emergency Services, Government of Nagaland, has invited banks, educational institutions, business associations, and owners of high-rise buildings and shopping complexes to participate in its comprehensive fire safety awareness campaign, which will feature mock drills, evacuation exercises, and hands-on training in firefighting techniques.
The initiative, aimed at strengthening the working relationship between the Fire Department and the public while improving preparedness among occupants of commercial and institutional spaces, will cover live demonstrations of firefighting equipment, guidance on safety practices, instruction on using fire extinguishers, LPG safety measures, evacuation drills, demonstrations of inbuilt firefighting systems, and basic first aid, according to a departmental press release.
The department has drawn up a month-wise schedule for the campaign. Public and private banks will be covered in September 2026, followed by schools and colleges, both government and private, in October. Market areas have been scheduled for November, while shopping complexes and malls will be taken up in December 2026.
Organisations interested in availing the programme have been asked to submit their requests to the nearest fire station on or before August 31, 2026. The department noted that where two or more applicants come forward for the same period, it reserves the right to conduct the training at a venue of its choosing.
