
Mokokchung, June 7 (MExN): Parliamentary Secretary for Agriculture, Dr N Benjongliba Aier visited the Naga villages bordering Assam on June 5 and assured that the demand for Village Guards in the border areas is being seriously expedited by the Nagaland State government. The Parliamentary Secretary, who is the local MLA from the 30th Alongtaki A/C visited Saring, Aonokpuyimsen, Tsüremen and Akumen and interacted with the villagers.
At Saringyim, he said that the creation of Village Guards in the border areas was also taken up in 2006 and that names from each village were written down for the same. However, he informed that work is still pending with the government. The Parliamentary Secretary stated that he has personally met the Chief Minister to discuss the issue and added that the government is urgently working to address it.
The Parliamentary Secretary disclosed that he has written to the Nagaland Chief Minister to revoke the imposed CrPC 144 prohibitory order in the border areas. He also disclosed that a meeting of all the nine MLAs from the border constituencies in Nagaland (from Tenning to Tizit) was held at his office on June 4. He informed that the meeting held extensive deliberations on the border issue and the construction of the Foothill Road. He said that the nine MLAs resolved to meet the Chief Minister and discuss the issue with him.
Expressing appreciation to the Ao Senden for appointing him as a convener in the Foothill Road Committee, Dr Benjongliba disclosed that he has met the Ao MLAs, the Ao Senso Telongjem Dimapur and the Ao Senden. He also informed that the Ao MLAs have already met with the Chief Minister twice to discuss the present situation and have also met with the other ministers. He expressed appreciation to the Chief Minister for his concern and understanding of the people’s plight on the present border situation in the state.
Expressing solidarity with the border villages, Dr. Benjongliba asserted that they are undergoing the hardships not for themselves but for whole the whole Ao and the Naga community. He therefore appealed for the villager’s support and cooperation to the government and the Chief Minister, so that the issue can be resolved at the earliest.
While urging the villagers to be careful, he pointed out that it is imperative for villagers to coordinate with the Border Peace Coordination Committee (BPCC), which has been jointly formed by the Assamese and Naga people.
He also expressed deep appreciation to the Ao Senden and different organizations for their solidarity and support to the villagers in his 30th Alongtaki A/C during the border tension. The Parliamentary Secretary also provided relief food materials to the villagers during his visit. A host of government officials, Ao Senden and Japukong Senso Mungdang leaders also accompanied the Parliamentary Secretary.
