Minister for Rural Development and SIRD and Minister-in-Charge of Mokokchung District, Metsübo Jamir, on Friday urged NPF youth leaders to be self-reliant, responsible and active at the grassroots level, stating that the future vision of the party rests with the younger generation.
Addressing the Naga People’s Front Youth Wing Mokokchung Division Leadership Meet 2026 as Guest of Honour, Jamir said that a leader should not depend on others to assume leadership responsibilities. He encouraged the youth to stand on their own feet, assist their parents and elders, and prove their leadership through action.
“Youths should not merely observe how others lead; they should show the way through their own leadership,” he said, adding that the hopes and visions of the party’s seniors are placed upon them.
Clarifying the party’s position in the context of the opposition-less government in Nagaland, Jamir said that while the government was formed with the intention of promoting unity for a solution to the Naga political issue, the NPF remains an independent political party. He said that unity among the 60 legislators could help foster unity among Naga tribes and various Naga political groups, thereby contributing towards peace and a solution.
He also highlighted the significance of the party hierarchy and grassroots workers, describing them as the foundation of the organisation. He urged party workers to identify weaknesses, dangers and challenges at the grassroots, address them wherever possible, and communicate unresolved matters through the appropriate levels of the party structure.
Jamir said politics is not complicated but is about like-minded people selecting capable representatives to govern. He maintained that leadership should be determined by wisdom, good ideas, leadership qualities and public acceptance rather than age or status. He called upon party workers to work in unity and understanding, without divisions.
The Leadership Meet 2026 was held at the NPF Mokokchung Division Office under the theme, “Empowering Youth Voices for a Transformative Future.” Imnatiba, former MLA and CEC member, attended as the theme speaker.
In his theme address, Imnatiba urged the youth to move beyond a narrow village-centric mindset and work towards a collective future. He said that while being a responsible citizen in one’s village is a major strength of the Nagas, this strength should not become a limitation.
The programme also saw the oath-taking and induction of 22 youth leaders from the division’s 10 constituencies for the 2025–2026 tenure. Repameren Yaden, President of NPF Mokokchung Division, administered the oath. The event also included a media-awareness session led by advocate Toshi O. Longkumer on media literacy, cyber laws and the use of media for political leadership.
