Dimapur, July 19 (MExN): Nagaland Governor Nand Kishore Yadav and Chief Minister Dr Neiphiu Rio led political leaders and parties in expressing grief on July 19 over the rain-triggered landslide and flash floods in Mon district that claimed lives and caused extensive damage to property and infrastructure.
Governor Yadav expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy and conveyed his condolences to the bereaved families. He also prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured.
The Governor appreciated the efforts of the district administration, Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Nagaland Police, Assam Rifles, medical personnel and other agencies engaged in rescue and relief operations.

He appealed to people to remain vigilant and follow official advisories, adding that his thoughts and prayers were with the people of Mon and others affected by the adverse weather across the state.
Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio described the reports of heavy landslides in Mon as "deeply distressing" and expressed condolences to the families of those who lost their lives.
He said the state government was closely monitoring the situation and that the NSDMA, district administration, District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), SDRF, police, Assam Rifles and local communities were carrying out search and rescue operations.
Rio said the government would provide immediate ex gratia assistance to the families of the deceased and relief to all those affected.
Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton also expressed grief over the natural disasters in Mon, Mokokchung and other parts of the state, which have resulted in loss of lives and widespread damage.
Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) president and Lok Sabha MP Supongmeren Jamir expressed grief over the Mon landslide and extended condolences to the bereaved families.
He urged people to remain vigilant during the monsoon, avoid landslide-prone areas and follow safety advisories issued by authorities.
Jamir also urged the state government to ensure adequate compensation and timely relief for affected families. Expressing concern over the flood situation in Tuli subdivision of Mokokchung district, he appealed for immediate relief and rehabilitation measures and called upon residents to support one another during the crisis.
In a separate statement, Geology and Mining Advisor W Chingang Konyak, on behalf of the nine MLAs from Mon district, expressed grief over the disaster.
The legislators said the landslide in Mon district headquarters had claimed four lives, injured several people, destroyed numerous houses and rendered more than 10 families homeless. They also said four persons, including a mother and daughter, were reportedly still missing beneath the debris.
The MLAs also expressed sympathy with people affected by floods in Tizit village, Tizit town, Lapa Lampong and Naganimora, as well as those affected by landslides in Wakching Chingla and Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Wakching.
They assured affected families of their support and commitment to work with the state government and other agencies to ensure timely relief, rehabilitation and assistance, while expressing hope that search operations would locate those still missing.
The Naga People's Front (NPF) also expressed grief over the loss of lives and widespread damage caused by flash floods and landslides across the state.
