MON, November 3 (MExN): The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC), under its “Vote Bachao, Desh Bachao” campaign, held a meeting in Mon district to review the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and its implementation in the district.
The meeting was attended by AICC Observer Puran Chand Padhi, NPCC Working President Apok Jamir and members of the Mon District Congress Committee (DCC).
According to a press release issued by the NPCC, Padhi raised concerns over alleged “vote chori”, claiming that the SIR exercise could be misused to delete names of genuine voters from electoral rolls. He also alleged that Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar was overseeing a process through which eligible voters’ names were being removed.
Padhi urged Congress workers to conduct constituency-level verification of electoral rolls and identify any wrongful deletions, stressing the need to protect every eligible citizen’s right to vote.
Jamir also called for close monitoring of the SIR process, raising concerns over what he described as “vote chori” and “Ghati Chor”. Citing figures during his address, he claimed that approximately 14% of votes had been deleted across the country and urged party workers to ensure that no eligible voter was deprived of their democratic rights.
He observed that the SIR exercise in Mon had been carried out more systematically than in some other districts, particularly Dimapur, while emphasising the need for continued monitoring and verification across Nagaland.
Jamir urged Congress workers to scrutinise electoral rolls and complete the necessary verification before November 20, 2026, so that discrepancies or wrongful deletions could be brought to the notice of the appropriate authorities.
The meeting concluded with an appeal to DCC members and grassroots workers to intensify efforts to safeguard eligible voters’ rights, the release added.
The NPCC reiterated its commitment to ensuring that every eligible voter is included in the electoral roll.
