A wheelchair and access ramp installed to ensure a barrier-free voting experience at the Polling Station in Ward-11 (Chaara) under Chümoukedima Town Council.
Chümoukedima, June 16 (MExN): Nagaland’s State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, Tongpang L Jamir, on Tuesday inspected the polling station at Ward-11 (Chaara) under Chümoukedima Town Council to assess the accessibility measures and services provided for Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) during the polling process.
The Commissioner was accompanied by Ashe Kiba, Program Coordinator of SCPD Office. An update from the Commissioner’s office stated that Jamir examined facilities including a wheelchair and an access ramp installed to ensure a barrier-free voting experience. He also held discussions with ADC/Returning Officer T Lemlila Sangtam NCS regarding arrangements for PwD electors.

The Commissioner also interacted with the ADC/Returning Officer (RO) T Lemlila Sangtam NCS regarding the arrangements made for PwD voters.
Officials informed the Commissioner that two registered PwD voters were attached to the station. One had already cast his vote in the morning, while the second was expected to arrive later. Senior citizens and PwDs were given priority and assisted at every step upon arrival.
Jamir appreciated the election authorities’ efforts and stressed the need for all eligible voters, including those with disabilities, to exercise their franchise with dignity, independence and ease.
The visit is part of the State Commissioner’s ongoing initiative to promote inclusive electoral practices across Nagaland.
