Nagaland: Rainfall predicted till July 8

DIMAPUR, JUNE 30 (MExN): The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) has issued a weather advisory predicting widespread rainfall across all districts of the state from July 1 to July 8. The alert includes warnings of thunderstorms, lightning, and heavy downpours that could disrupt normal life and pose risks to public safety.

According to a press release issued by the NSDMA, "Nagaland will experience rainfall in all the districts starting from 1st of July till the 8th of July, 2025. These showers may be accompanied by thunderstorms and lightnings in all the districts."

The advisory notes that “heavy rain is also predicted for majority of the districts starting from 2nd July till 6th July, 2025,” with Kiphire and Tuensang expected to bear the brunt. “Kiphire and Tuensang are likely to receive very heavy rainfall on 2nd and 3rd July, 2025,” the release stated.

As a result, the NSDMA has urged residents to “take necessary measures in this period, including avoiding lightning strikes and high winds.” The authority also warned that “road transport communication and connectivity may also be affected in the coming days.”

Particular concern has been raised for lowland and foothill regions. “Due to the risk of high precipitation in the hill sector, Nagaland's lowland and foothill districts, including Dimapur, Niuland, Chumoukedima, Bhandari, Baghty, Tizit, and Tuli may be vulnerable to inundated waterlogging and flash floods,” the release warned.

The NSDMA urged the public to exercise caution to avoid any eventualities during this period. All District Disaster Management Authorities and other line departments have been asked “to remain on high alert to safeguard lives and property during the monsoon season.”
