Nagaland Special Lok Adalat recovers Rs 58.58 lakh

Kohima, July 18 (MExN): As many as five cases under the Negotiable Instruments (NI) Act were amicably settled for a total of Rs 58,58,800 during a Special Lok Adalat held across Nagaland on Saturday.

The Lok Adalat was organised by District Legal Services Authorities (DLSAs) under the aegis of the Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA), following a directive from the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), a press release said.

Of the 22 pending NI Act cases taken up across the state, five were resolved through settlement, while the rest were referred back to regular courts.

The Kiphire DLSA recorded the highest settlement through an e-Lok Adalat, disposing of all three cases it had taken up for Rs 51,08,800.

The Dimapur DLSA settled one of seven cases for Rs 4,00,000, while the Peren DLSA disposed of its only case for Rs 3,50,000.

At the Kohima DLSA, none of the eight cases taken up could be settled and were referred back to the regular court. One case each taken up by the Mokokchung and Zunheboto DLSAs also remained unresolved.
