State-Level ‘Catch Them Young’ U-14 Sepaktakraw Tournament concludes

The State-Level “Catch Them Young” Under-14 Sepaktakraw Tournament, organized by Department of Youth Resources & Sports in collaboration with All Nagaland Private Schools’ Association (ANPSA), concluded this afternoon at Indira Gandhi Stadium, Kohima.

In the boys’ category, King David Higher Secondary School, Chümoukedima emerged champions while Eastern School, Mon and St. Thomas Higher Secondary School, Dimapur, finished second and third place respectively.

In the girls’ category, Lorna’s Higher Secondary School, Dimapur, secured the first position while Green Valley and Mungleu Valley School, Saijang Peren stood second and third position respectively.

Altogether, 15 boys team and 13 girls team from Dimapur, Mokokchung, Peren, Kohima, Mon, Wokha, Longleng, Chümoukedima, Niuland, Phek and Zunheboto districts joined the tournament.

Gracing the closing ceremony as the special guest, Dr Kekhrielhoulie Yhome, Advisor for School Education & SCERT commended the Department of Youth Resources & Sports and ANPSA for their joint effort in holding this state level Sepaktakraw tournament and hoped that it will go a long way in promoting the young talents.

He informed that Nagaland will soon host Asian Women’s Sepaktakraw Championship in Kohima, and expecting the participation of not less than 20 Southeast Asian countries.

Highlighting the readiness of local infrastructure, he said that Indira Gandhi Stadium now meets national standards and is capable of hosting international-level tournaments.

He said that Chief Minister Dr Neiphiu Rio has been putting a lot of trust in sporting events in the state.

He lauded Holshe Khrieo for his valuable contribution in the field of Sepaktakraw in Nagaland.

“In a very short time, our state is shining,” Dr Yhome said.

He said that Nagaland has produced 23 international Sepaktakraw players and participated in the 24 international events so far and brought many laurels to the country.

Dr Yhome assured that Nagaland will design how sporting will be done, how games will be conducted across all schools and groom young talents so that they represent the state at the various levels.

Anthony Ngullie, Commissioner and Secretary, Youth Resources & Sports, Laji Luyanba, PS to Advisor, Youth Resources & Sports, Nagaland and Bithungo Kikon, Member ANPSA Sepaktakraw Committee & Ex-officio Advisor ANPSA Central also spoke on the occasion.

Chairing the programme, Kethosituo Sekhose, Director, Youth Resources & Sports said that the similar State-Level “Catch Them Young” Under-14 Sepaktakraw Tournament will take place next year too.

Ruokuose-ü Sanchu presented a special number while thanksgiving prayer was pronounced by Visato Yhoshü, Pastor, UBC Kohima.
