Severe cyclonic storm Montha in the Bay of Bengal has begun making landfall near Andhra Pradesh's Kakinada, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) updated Tuesday night.

According to the national weather agency, the maximum wind speed at the time of landfall is likely to be 90–110 km per hour.

Under the impact of Montha, heavy to extremely heavy rainfall is expected in coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, Telangana, south Chhattisgarh, and Odisha. The IMD urged people to stay indoors and follow official updates to remain safe.

Meanwhile, due to changing weather conditions, the IMD forecast light to moderate rain or thunderstorms at many or some places, with isolated heavy rainfall, over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura during October 31–November 2.

Specifically for Nagaland, a forecast bulletin issued by IMD at 8:20 PM noted the possibility of thunderstorms with lightning at isolated places on October 30. On October 31 and November 1, heavy rainfall and thunderstorms accompanied by lightning were predicted at isolated locations. On November 2, only heavy rainfall at isolated places is forecasted for Nagaland, with no alert issued for the following day.

Overall, rainfall over Nagaland from October 30 to November 2 is expected to be scattered.

The district-wise five-day weather update by the Meteorological Centre, Kohima, indicated that rainfall activity would be mostly restricted to Kohima, Peren, Phek, and undivided Dimapur on October 30–31, and Kohima and Phek on November 1.
