Nagaland women win bronze in National Tug of War Championship

Shirdi, August 24 (MExN): Team Nagaland (Women) clinched the bronze medal in the Senior Women 500 Kg category at the 38th National Tug of War Championship held at the Sai Baba Educational Complex, Shirdi, Maharashtra.

The Nagaland team secured the medal by defeating Uttar Pradesh in the bronze medal match, winning both pulling rounds in straight contests.

In a press statement, Team Manager Kuzhovesa Soho described the achievement as significant since it was the first participation of the Nagaland women’s team in the National Championship.

“Nagaland Women team participating for the first time in the National championship grabbing Bronze is a testimony of good going forward and paying full indebtedness to God for His unfailing Love towards the team,” he said.

Soho expressed gratitude to Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio for extending financial support to the team. “Nagaland Chief Minister, Dr. Neiphiu Rio, bore the entire expenses of the championship which enable the women team decorated with beautiful Bronze Medal. The NTWA further look forward of such initiatives by CM Rio by promoting youth with zeal & enthusiastics. The team prayed that God the Almighty blessed him richly in return,” he stated.

Acknowledging the role of Coach Vemele Thingo, Soho said his “tireless efforts” kept the team united and helped bring laurels to the state.

He further conveyed the team’s indebtedness to the people of Nagaland. “The entire Nagas for the moral support & prayer which enable the Team Nagaland shining up in the National level,” Soho remarked.

The team also thanked NTWA President Dr. Er. Vekho Swuro for providing logistic support and assistance throughout the training journey to the championship.

The Nagaland women’s team is scheduled to return home on the morning of August 27.
