Kohima, January 18 (MExN): The Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC) on January 18 expressed deep sorrow and shock over the passing of Rev Dr Robert R Cunville, a respected servant of God and a close friend of the Naga people.
In a condolence message, the NBCC fondly recalled Rev Dr Cunville’s long association with the Nagas, particularly with the Council, and acknowledged his life and ministry as a great blessing. An associate evangelist of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (BGEA), he carried a deep love and burden for the people of Nagaland, consistently upholding them in prayer and ministry.
The NBCC noted that his active participation during the historic Billy Graham Crusade held in Kohima in 1972 remains vivid in the collective memory of the Naga people, especially senior citizens. The crusade marked a significant spiritual milestone in the Christian history of Nagaland, bringing renewed faith, unity and revival among believers, with Rev Dr Cunville’s involvement leaving a lasting spiritual impact.
The Council also recalled his recent message at “Nagaland United: A Gathering of Faith, Hope and Revival,” organised by the Kohima Baptist Pastors’ Fellowship in Kohima, stating that his words, marked by clarity, conviction and deep pastoral concern for unity and spiritual renewal, continue to resonate with many.
Describing him as a humble, gracious and prayerful man of God, the NBCC said the Christian world has lost a committed evangelical preacher whose ministry impacted thousands across nations. The Council thanked God for his life, witness and enduring contribution to the spiritual journey of the Naga people, and prayed for God’s comfort, peace and strength upon the bereaved family.
