
DIMAPUR, MARCH 12 (MExN): The Director of the NEZCC (North East Zone Cultural Centre) Som Kamei said Saturday that the coming North East Spring Festival in Dimapur will be a show for the common man. Speaking to media persons today at the NEZCC, Kamei appealed upon the citizens to come and witness the event which will have regional, national as well as international artistes showcasing a colourful potpourri of ethno-cultural displays over five days, besides ethnic food and crafts. He especially appealed parents to come alongwith their children.
Preparations are on in full swing at the NEZCC complex to host the event, beginning March16 to 20. Breaking a tradition of sorts, the opening day will not have any ‘VVIPs or chief guests’ formally declaring open the festival. The rationale behind this is to allow the ordinary public to enjoy the event without any security hassles.
“We’ll have a common man show”, said the NEZCC Director. The opening day will some prominent dignitaries in the form of the GOC, 3 Corps and the Auditor General of Nagaland, nevertheless. The Governor of Nagaland Nikhil Kumar will also be paying a visit as the festival progresses.
The cultural fiesta will be choreographed by Prasanna Gogoi, director of the Assam Cultural Academy, whom Kamei described as a master craftsman. Prominent designer from Nagaland, Imcha Imchen will also be presenting an ethno-costume show.
The cultural festivities aside, a ‘Book Fair’ organised is collaboration with the National Book Trust (NBT) will be held concurrently with the Spring Fest. It will begin two days earlier on March 14. Prof. Temsula Ao will inaugurate the fair. A panel discussion on the ‘Role of Media in Promoting Books and Reading’ is scheduled on the morning of the inaugural.
Activities and creative competitions, particularly targeted at children, will be held during the whole duration of the fair, Kamei informed. For this he requested all schools in Dimapur to take part.
Editor of the NBT, Benny Kuriam who also attended the media interaction said that 30 publishers from across the country are participating in the ‘Book Fair’. It will have 50 stalls displaying a myriad range of books. Books sold at the fair will have discounts.
