NEICC welcomes referral of FCRA Amendment Bill 2026 to JPC

Dimapur, August 12 (MExN): The North East India Christian Council (NEICC) has warmly welcomed the Government of India's decision to refer the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026 to a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) for detailed examination.

In a press release issued by General Secretary Rev Dr Meyu Changkiri, the council expressed its sincere gratitude to Union Home Minister Amit Shah for acknowledging the concerns raised by the Christian community and other stakeholders, calling the decision an important and positive step in the democratic process.

The NEICC expressed hope that the JPC will examine the proposed amendments objectively and comprehensively, hear the views of affected stakeholders, and consider the practical implications before submitting its recommendations. Reaffirming its stand, the council stated that the Christian community remains committed to transparency, accountability, and compliance with national laws, while seeking a fair, proportionate, and workable legal framework for institutions serving society.

The council also placed on record its appreciation for Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma, and Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio for listening to the concerns of the public and personally taking them up with the Union Government. Gratitude was also extended to the Members of Parliament and public representatives who supported the cause.

Furthermore, the NEICC conveyed its deep appreciation to church leaders, congregations, and Christian communities across the North East, India, and globally for their prayers and solidarity. Stating that the moment calls for continued prayer, wisdom, and responsible engagement, the council reiterated its commitment to constructive dialogue and confirmed its intention to actively engage with the parliamentary process.
