Chümoukedima, November 4 (MExN): The North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR), Chümoukedima, organised a one-day workshop on starting and managing non-governmental organisations (NGOs) for first- and second-year Master of Social Work (MSW) students.
The workshop, titled “Build Your NGO: Bootcamp – To Start an NGO from Scratch,” was held at BAM Hall under the NEISSR Skill Lab initiative.
According to a press release from the institute, the workshop was facilitated by Jiji Joseph, Senior Programme Officer, Development Association of Nagaland (DAN), who provided practical guidance on NGO establishment, registration, governance, functioning and sustainability.
As part of the hands-on exercise, students were divided into seven groups and tasked with identifying social problems and conceptualising NGOs to address them. Each group developed an organisation’s vision, mission, goals, objectives, activities and target beneficiaries.
Joseph also explained the legal forms available for establishing NGOs in India, including societies, trusts and Section 8 companies. He highlighted the importance of accountability, effective management and organisational sustainability.
The workshop aimed to equip students with practical organisational planning skills and encourage social entrepreneurship and community-led development and is part of the NEISSR’s efforts to strengthen experiential learning and professional skills among future social work practitioners, the release added.
