Guwahati, June 26 (MExN): Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) General Manager Chetan Kumar Shrivastava on Friday inspected Rangapara North and Dekargaon railway stations in Assam to review ongoing infrastructure development works and assess the progress of proposed railway expansion projects in the region.
During the visit, Shrivastava also inspected the abandoned old Tezpur railway station and reviewed the condition of the station building and other infrastructure at the site.
At Rangapara North, the General Manager reviewed redevelopment works being carried out under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. The station is being upgraded at a cost of over Rs 55 crore with modern passenger amenities and improved infrastructure.
According to NFR, around 80 per cent of the redevelopment work has been completed, while the remaining works are progressing steadily towards completion.
Shrivastava also inspected Dekargaon railway station and its yard, where he reviewed the status of the proposed Agthori-Dekargaon and Tezpur-Silghat new railway line projects.
NFR said survey work for both projects, including the proposed Agthori-Dekargaon line via Darrang district and the Tezpur-Silghat line featuring a new bridge over the Brahmaputra River, has been completed and is under review by the Union Ministry.
The proposed rail links are expected to strengthen transportation infrastructure, improve regional connectivity and contribute to the socio-economic development of the region, it said.
As part of the inspection programme, the General Manager also carried out a window trailing inspection from Kamakhya to Dekargaon to assess the condition of railway infrastructure and monitor operational aspects along the route.
During the inspection, he reviewed the maintenance of tracks, bridges, stations and other railway assets, besides evaluating ongoing development works and identifying areas requiring further improvement to enhance safety, operational efficiency and passenger services.
NFR said the inspection reflected its continued commitment to strengthening rail infrastructure, improving passenger amenities and expanding railway connectivity across the Northeast.
