Maligaon, October 16 (MExN): Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) installed electric vehicle (EV) charging facilities at its headquarters in Maligaon, Guwahati, on Friday as part of its efforts to promote sustainable mobility and encourage the adoption of electric vehicles.
The facilities were inaugurated by NFR General Manager Chetan Kumar Shrivastava in the presence of senior officials of the railway's headquarters.
According to an NFR statement, the newly installed facilities cater to both four-wheelers and two-wheelers, providing charging options for employees and visitors and supporting the shift towards cleaner transportation.
The facilities include a 60-kW DC fast charger with dual charging guns for four-wheelers. Equipped with CCS2 connectors, the charger is compatible with electric cars of different makes and models and has an estimated charging time of 30 to 40 minutes.
A 3.3-kW charger with a universal socket has also been installed for electric two-wheelers. Depending on the vehicle's make and model, charging may take up to 1.5 hours.
The new infrastructure is expected to improve access to EV charging facilities within the NFR headquarters premises, encourage employees and visitors to adopt electric mobility and reduce dependence on conventional fossil-fuel-powered vehicles.
The initiative reflects NFR's commitment to environmentally responsible practices and the promotion of cleaner and more sustainable transportation, the statement added.
