Maligaon, July 1 (MExN): Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has introduced a range of interactive digital technologies at crew lobbies across Katihar Division to strengthen operational safety and modernise the training of loco pilots.

According to NFR, the initiatives are aimed at making training more practical and technology-driven while enhancing operational knowledge and decision-making skills to ensure safer and more efficient train operations, the NFR said in a statement.

As part of the initiative, interactive touch panels have been installed in all crew lobbies across the division. The digital platforms will support day-to-day learning, counselling sessions and provide quick access to important operational information, making the training process more engaging and user-friendly.

The Katihar Division has also introduced interactive quizzes on the Automatic Signalling System to help loco pilots regularly assess and improve their understanding of signalling principles. A physical working model of the Automatic Signalling System has also been installed to provide practical demonstrations and hands-on learning.

To strengthen route familiarisation, the division has introduced interactive route videography covering both day and night conditions. The high-quality videos provide realistic visual exposure to railway routes, enabling loco pilots to identify signals, landmarks, gradients and other operational features under varying visibility conditions, thereby improving route knowledge and operational preparedness.

In addition, the division has launched a dedicated podcast series on railway operational topics, including the functioning of the R.S. Valve, to promote continuous learning among crew members.

The crew lobby at Malda Town (MLDT) has also been upgraded with improved digital infrastructure and modern facilities to support technology-enabled training and counselling.

According to the NFR, the initiatives reflect its commitment to leveraging digital technologies to build a highly skilled workforce, strengthen safety standards and promote operational excellence.
