NFR records 11.4 MT freight loading in FY 2025–26

Maligaon, April 2 (MExN): Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) recorded 11.4 million tonnes (MT) of freight loading in the financial year 2025–26, registering a 6% increase over the previous year, according to a press release issued on April 2.

The NFR stated that the growth reflects its focus on improving logistics efficiency, infrastructure and terminal management, along with coordination with stakeholders for transportation of commodities such as food grains, fertilizers, coal, cement and petroleum products.

Petroleum Oil and Lubricants (POL) registered its best-ever performance during the year, with 1,488 rakes loaded. Other commodities including cement, stone chips, dolomite and bamboo chips also recorded increases, contributing to the overall freight growth.

Freight handling operations showed an increase in unloading, with total rakes rising from 12,346 in 2024–25 to 13,034 in 2025–26, an addition of 688 rakes. The NFR informed that automobile traffic grew by 22%, while cement unloading increased by 18%. Stone chips, food grains under Food Corporation of India (FCI) and fertilizer segments also posted growth.

At the terminal level, Baihata recorded a 24% increase in unloading, followed by Changsari and the STAR terminal with 18% growth each. Azara and Jirania terminals also registered improvement during the period.
