Maligaon, July 3 (MExN): Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has redeveloped Majbat railway station in Assam's Udalguri district under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS) at a cost of over Rs 12 crore, as part of its efforts to modernise railway infrastructure and enhance passenger amenities across the region.
According to the NFR, Majbat is among the 92 stations identified for redevelopment under the ABSS in the NFR zone. Of these, 60 are located in the Northeast, including 50 in Assam.
The station, which falls under the Rangiya division of NFR, serves as an important railhead for Udalguri district. The redevelopment project has focused on improving passenger convenience, accessibility and the overall travel experience while preserving the station's regional identity.
The project involved extensive civil, electrical and signalling works, resulting in a comprehensive transformation of the station's infrastructure.
The station now features a modern facade, a spacious entry porch, an upgraded waiting hall, landscaped surroundings, a widened circulating area, new toilet blocks, improved approach roads and drainage systems, platform shelters and other passenger-centric infrastructure.
To meet growing passenger demand, Platform No. 1 has been extended to accommodate full-length trains. Tactile paving, Divyang-friendly drinking water booths and two lifts have also been installed to ensure safe and convenient access for all passengers.
Passenger amenities have been further strengthened through upgraded electrical infrastructure, including modern lighting, an air-conditioned waiting hall, mobile charging points, improved platform wiring and illuminated approach roads.
The station has also been equipped with a Coach Guidance Board (CGB) and a Train Indication Board (TIB), aimed at improving passenger information systems and operational efficiency.
NFR said the redevelopment of Majbat station reflects its continued commitment to providing modern, safe and inclusive railway infrastructure.
Once fully operational under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, the upgraded station is expected to offer greater passenger comfort, seamless accessibility for Divyangjan, improved operational efficiency and contribute to the socio-economic development of the region while strengthening rail connectivity across Assam and the Northeast.
