Maligaon, May 22 (MExN): Northeast Frontier Railway has completed a major curve realignment work in the Simaluguri-Moranhat section under the Tinsukia Division, enabling the permanent removal of a speed restriction and allowing faster train movement in the section.

The infrastructure upgrade involved conversion of an existing three-degree curve into a smoother two-degree curve through cut-and-connection of tracks along with shifting of overhead equipment (OHE) masts and wires, an official statement said on Friday.

The work was carried out with coordination among the Engineering, Operating and Traction Distribution (TRD) departments during a traffic block period, reflecting operational efficiency and teamwork within the division.

During the execution of the block, the existing three-degree curve was connected with a newly aligned two-degree curve laid on a fresh formation of around 500 metres.

The project involved a maximum track slew of 7.7 metres and was completed with precision and safety measures, the statement said.
To ensure smooth and safe train operations, machine tamping using a Duomatic machine was carried out before movement of the first train through the section.

Following completion of the work, the existing Permanent Speed Restriction (PSR) of 95 kmph over a 500-metre stretch has been permanently removed and the section has now been cleared for a Maximum Permissible Speed (MPS) of 110 kmph.

According to the railway authorities, the development is expected to improve train mobility, enhance punctuality and ensure smoother and more efficient train operations in the section.

The NFR said it remains committed to continuous infrastructure modernisation, strengthening safety measures and improving operational efficiency to provide safer, faster and more reliable rail services across its network.
