Maligaon, April 24 (MExN): Reinforcing its commitment to preserving India’s rich railway legacy, the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has restored the historic Steam Locomotive No. 801-B, originally built in 1927 by M/s North British Locomotive Company Ltd., Glasgow, UK.
The meticulous renovation was carried out at the New Bongaigaon Workshop (NBQS), blending heritage conservation with modern technological enhancements.
The restored locomotive has been equipped with synchronised real steam locomotive sound, simulated smoke emission and dynamic lighting effects, recreating the authentic ambience of the steam era in a visually and acoustically immersive manner. The upgrades have been carefully designed to retain historical integrity while significantly enhancing its experiential appeal for viewers.
Steam Locomotive 801-B represents the legacy of early 20th-century railway engineering, and its restoration marks a significant step in preserving and promoting railway heritage. The initiative is expected to provide an engaging platform for railway enthusiasts, tourists and younger generations to experience the evolution of rail transport.
The effort aligns with Indian Railways’ broader vision of heritage conservation and public engagement, with a focus on transforming static displays into interactive exhibits.
The upgraded locomotive is expected to emerge as a key attraction in heritage showcases and railway exhibitions under NFR.
