Maligaon, July 15 (MExN): The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) on Wednesday said the redevelopment of Majbat railway station in Assam and Jalpaiguri Road and Haldibari railway stations in West Bengal under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme has significantly improved passenger amenities and received an encouraging response from local residents.

According to an NFR statement, the redeveloped stations have enhanced passenger convenience while reflecting the government's commitment to strengthening railway infrastructure and preserving the cultural identity of the respective localities.

Before redevelopment, passengers at the three stations faced inadequate waiting areas, limited passenger amenities, poor circulation spaces and insufficient infrastructure to handle the growing number of railway users, it said.

The upgraded stations now feature modern station buildings, spacious waiting halls, improved platforms, enhanced circulating areas, modern toilets, better lighting, advanced passenger information systems, Divyangjan-friendly facilities, landscaped surroundings and other passenger-centric amenities.

NFR said the improved infrastructure has made travel safer, more comfortable and seamless for thousands of passengers and local residents.

The railway zone added that the redeveloped stations are expected to promote tourism, support local businesses and generate economic opportunities by improving the overall image of the towns and encouraging the promotion of indigenous products.

Residents of Majbat, Vishal Das and Jolly Dey, welcomed the transformation, saying the station now offers modern amenities and a more comfortable environment for passengers.

The positive response from local communities reflects the impact of the redevelopment projects and reinforces NFR's commitment to developing modern, inclusive and future-ready railway stations that contribute to regional socio-economic growth, the statement added.
