NFR’s solar plants generating capacity at over 4358 kwp till March

Guwahati, April 28 (MExN): In line with the Indian Railway’s target to achieve zero carbon emission by 2030, the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has been taking to steps to generate more green energy by installing solar power plants across the zone, an official release said. 

Till March 2022, Roof-Top Solar power plants with generating capacity of 4358.233 Kilo Watt Peak (kwp) have been commissioned throughout the NFR, added the release issued by NFR CPRO. 

This would save 44.54 lakh units amounting to approximately Rs 3.56 crore annually in energy bills, it said. 

During the last financial year, under its ‘Go-Green’ mission, NFR successfully commissioned 585 kwp (kilowatts peak) of solar roof top systems in various stations and other service buildings.

It included commissioning of 195 kwp capacity in Lumding station; 100 kwp in Dimapur station and 120 kwp in Kamakhya Coaching Depot under Lumding division. 

Likewise, a 100 kwp capacity is being commissioned in Rangiya station; 10 kwp each in Viswanath Chariali station and Kendriya Vidyalaya/Rangiya under Rangiya division; 20 kwp capacity in Dalgaon station under Alipurduar division; and 10 kwp each in Kalchini, Dhubri and Salakati station, it added. 

In the current financial year, to meet the energy requirements, NFR is all set to commission 1500 kwp capacity of solar roof top systems in its jurisdiction including 100 kwp in Silchar station, 200 kwp each in Guwahati station and Kamakhya station under Lumding divison. 

Besides, a1000 kwp is planned to be commissioned in New Bongaigaon Workshop which is a major workshop under NFR, the release informed.
