Maligaon, June 9 (MExN): The Northeast Frontier Railway Women Welfare Organisation (NFRWWO) organised a tree plantation drive and distributed saplings among students of Jagriti Shiksha Niketan, Pandu, as part of the observance of World Environment Day 2026.
According to a press release issued by the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), the programme was conducted under the leadership of NFRWWO President Shalini Shrivastava and aimed at promoting environmental awareness and encouraging students to participate in conservation efforts.
Saplings were distributed among students with a message on the importance of nurturing trees and adopting sustainable practices for a healthier environment.
As per the release, the Jagriti Shiksha Niketan, located in the railway settlement of Pandu, was established in 1975 and has since grown into a primary educational institution serving underprivileged children from the Pandu and Maligaon areas.
At present, the school provides education to more than 160 students from Play Group to Class V under the guidance and patronage of the NFRWWO. The institution is supported by teaching and non-teaching staff and focuses on the academic, cultural and overall development of students.
As the school marks 50 years of service, plans have been outlined for further development and upgradation of facilities to create a more conducive learning environment, the release added.
The NFRWWO reiterated its commitment to supporting educational initiatives and community welfare programmes aimed at contributing to social development.
