DIMAPUR, APRIL 6 (MExN): Presiding officers from the eight northeastern states convened in Gangtok on April 3 for a Joint Executive Committee meeting of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) India Region Zone-III and the North East Regional Institute of Parliamentary Studies, Training & Research (NERIPSTR).

The meeting was chaired by Nagaland Legislative Assembly Speaker Sharingain Longkumer, who also serves as Chairman and President of the CPA India Region Zone-III.

A key agenda item was finalizing the schedule for the 22nd Annual Conference of the CPA India Region Zone-III, proposed to be held in Kohima, Nagaland. The committee tentatively agreed on the dates of November 9 to 15, pending approval from the Speaker of the Lok Sabha.

Officials presented updates on the region’s parliamentary initiatives. Reports were delivered by the Commissioner and Secretary of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, the Secretary of CPA India Region Zone-III, and the Additional Director of NERIPSTR.

Following the presentations, the committee announced the formation of two subcommittees to drive forward CPA’s parliamentary objectives in the region. One subcommittee, led by the Speaker of Meghalaya and joined by the Speakers of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, will focus on workshops, seminars, and other engagements. The second, headed by the Speaker of Sikkim with support from the Speakers of Mizoram and Tripura, will oversee the publication of a bi-monthly newsletter covering CPA and NERIPSTR activities.

The gathering also addressed funding measures to bolster NERIPSTR's operations. The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks to the chair and the exchange of courtesies among participants.
