NNC adopts resolutions on Manipur
Kohima, July 2 (MExN): The Central Executive Council of the Naga National Council (NNC), during an emergency meeting held at its Kohima headquarters on June 25, adopted a series of resolutions addressing the situation in Manipur, organisational restructuring, and internal preparedness.
A statement by the Federal Government of Nagaland (FGN) Secretary said the council expressed "deep appreciation" for the release of "14 Kuki hostages by the Nagas of Manipur without harm," stating that the act reflected "the true spirit of the NNC's policy of non-violence," although it noted that the NNC "was not directly involved."
The council also "strongly condemned the senseless killing of six Naga hostages by the Kukis." It further stated, "It would be better if the Kukis realized sooner rather than later that they are migrants in our motherland." It added that "if they believe they can suppress the indigenous inhabitants with the help of outside agencies, they are mistaken, and their children will regret the foolish actions taken today."
On organisational matters, the council resolved to create the post of Vice President, Headquarters, stating that the decision was prompted by "increased activities and the need to cope with fast-moving political developments taking place in the Naga homeland."
The meeting unanimously elected Zapu-o Zhasa as Vice President, Headquarters. According to the statement, he will assume office with immediate effect after the "Oath of Office" is administered by the competent authority.
The council also resolved to caution its members "to remain alert to the situation in the event of increased hostile activities by our adversaries against us."
It noted that several members from Manipur were unable to attend "because the current situation in Manipur State is not favorable for travel," but added that discussions were held with key members who "expressed similar concerns and shared the same line of thinking."
The meeting was chaired by Kulhumo Rhakho and began with an invocation prayer by Neilalie Mepruo.
