NPF Secretary General Achumbemo Kikon today said that the NDPP has given no pre-conditions with regard to its possible merger with the NPF. He said this during a party meeting held in Kohima on September 18. “No, there is nothing as such. We are engaged in serious discussion from the beginning. Their leadership as well as ours, we are open to each other on all issues that pertaining to the party matters,” he said. “There is no condition attached as such. It is purely a mutual understanding and having anxiety and zeal to strengthen the regional force,” Kikon added.
The NPF meeting meanwhile decided to hold its General Convention on October 21.
Kikon told media that in view of the positive response from the NDPP, the Central Office Bearers (COB) of the NPF in its meeting held here today at NPF Central Office Kohima, decided to hold General Convention of the party on October 21 at Kohima. This onvention will coincide the party’ 63rd Foundation Day, he said adding “on that day, two parties coming together itself is significant and historic.”
During this convention, he said, after the NDPP concludes its own convention on October 18, they will take decision and hopefully they will decide to be a part of the NPF.
“We are hoping that. And follow up of that decision of that General Convention will be the General Convention of the NPF,” Kikon said. Therefore, they (NDPP) will also be part of that Convention, Kikon stated. He said that they would collectively take the party forward and strengthen the regional force.
Asked when the official declaration of the meger would likely happen, Kikon said “our Constitution says that 30 days notice should be given to active members to come together and participate in the General Convention. So with the COB’s decision today, by tomorrow (September 20), we will notify to the active members through print and electronic media.”
He said that the party would need to follow its constitutional procedure as they are answerable to the Election Commission of India.
Meanwhile, the COB in its meeting, reiterated the resolution of the Central Executive Council (CEC) NPF on September 6. It appreciated the stand taken by the NPF President to pave way for a new arrangement within the party organizational setup to strengthen the party both at the grassroots and central levels.
Earlier, NPF President Apong Pongener delivered the presidential address at the COB meeting while discussion on meeting agenda was brought forward by Achumbemo Kikon. The meeting was chaired by NPF Working President Pusazo Luruo while NPF Vice President (Asst Adm) Khriezobeinuo Sanchu delivered the welcome address.
