Phek, May 22 (MExN): The Chakhesang Students’ Union (CSU) has reaffirmed its stand against illegal taxation and extortion on new businesses undertaken by local populace, asserting that such practices hinder self-employment, independence and local economic growth.
In a press statement issued here, CSU Vice President Lindi Nienu and Media Secretary Aveto Resu said the Union recognises the critical role of students and youth in entrepreneurship and business ventures. Accordingly, the union has effectively notified all Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and political groups existing within the Chakhesang jurisdiction to refrain from imposing, collecting, or demanding any form of tax from youths and students who are commencing new businesses and entrepreneurial ventures.
The tax-free initiative, according to the union, aims to encourage and support young entrepreneurs in establishing their businesses without the additional burden of taxes; to create a conducive environment for innovation and enterprise; and to facilitate economic stability and self-sufficiency within the community, thereby reducing unemployment.
The CSU further stated that should any union or party be found in contrary with this standing order, appropriate measures will be undertaken. Every effort shall be made to ensure full compliance with this directive.
The student body also urged that any such activities found practiced by any organisation, union, group, or individual must be reported immediately to the CSU office for necessary action.
