NPCC questions BJP’s claims of infrastructure development in Nagaland

Dimapur, June 17 (MExN): The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) on June 17 rejected Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Textiles Pabitra Margherita's claims of unprecedented infrastructure and development progress in Nagaland under the BJP-led government, asserting that the ground reality does not reflect such assertions.

In a statement issued by its Communication Department, the NPCC said while the Union minister highlighted budgetary allocations, railway electrification figures and investment announcements, the people of Nagaland remain concerned about incomplete projects and inadequate public infrastructure.

The party maintained that development should be judged by completed projects and improvements in public infrastructure rather than statistics and speeches.

Questioning the BJP's claims on railway development in the Northeast, the NPCC alleged that major railway projects in Nagaland remain incomplete.

It also claimed that Dimapur Railway Station, the state's only major railway gateway, has not received the level of modernisation and upgradation promised under various railway development initiatives, adding that passengers continue to face inadequate facilities while stations in other parts of the country have undergone substantial transformation.

The NPCC further expressed concern over the condition of roads across the state, alleging that roads connecting Dimapur, Niuland and several other districts are affected by potholes, poor drainage and substandard construction. It also alleged that many newly constructed roads have deteriorated within a short period, raising concerns over quality control, accountability and the utilisation of public funds.

Questioning the government's claims of infrastructure development, the party asked why citizens continue to face incomplete railway projects, neglected railway infrastructure and poor road conditions if the progress cited by the Union minister has indeed been achieved.

The NPCC urged the BJP-led government to focus on delivering tangible results instead of what it termed "self-congratulatory narratives". It also called for a transparent status report on pending railway projects, early completion of the projects, modernisation of Dimapur Railway Station and measures to address the deteriorating road infrastructure across the state.
