NPF censured for beating women voters

Mokokchung, May 17 (MExN): The District Mahila Congress Committee (DMCC) of Mokokchung today strongly condemned the action of the NPF party over what it called the ‘atmosphere’ created by the NPF supporters in the just concluded by-election and alleged that women voters were slapped and beaten up by NPF supporters in the polling stations.
A press release issued by the DMCC Mokokchung president Mrs Tiakala and vice president Mrs Sowala, while censuring the NPF supporters for creating the ‘atmosphere’ in the polling stations pointed out that the NPF volunteers were led by Home Minister and PHED Minister and other various other NPF leaders.
Alleging that voters, especially the female voters standing in the queue were pulled by their hair, slapped and beaten up in front of everyone and forced out from the polling station, the DMCC Mokokchung asserted that the action of the NPF supporters, who came from different nearby constituencies, in beating up the women Congress voters is totally shameful and against the Ao Naga traditions.
The Congress Mahila, Mokokchung also questioned ‘the overt participation of the NSCN (IM) in the 26th Aonglenden A/C by-election at the behest of the NPF party’.
“The people bear witness to the wholehearted participation of the NSCN (IM) in the just concluded by-election. The Congress Mahila Mokokchung appeals every right thinking Naga to ponder upon sincerely, whether the action of the NSCN (IM) justifies what they stand for,” the release stated.
Also, standing by the words of the NPCC leadership on the various allegations against the NPF party, the DMCC said that it bears testimony to the words of NPCC president and the CLP Leader regarding the atrocities committed by the NPF during the course of the by-election, especially on the day of the polling. The DMCC declared that every word of the NPCC leadership is the whole truth and the people of Mokokchung bear witness to the ‘devious works of the NPF in this by-election’.
Nonetheless, the DMCC express pain at the personal attack launched by the NPF during the whole election campaign. Making its stand clear that people should respect leaders irrespective of political parties, the DMCC said senior most politicians like Dr S.C. Jamir and Dr. Shurhozelie, who have immense political experience and whose political wisdom leads the people of Nagaland at all times, must be respect and regarded by the people.
In this regard, the DMCC denounced the disrespect shown by the NPF during the election campaigns by mocking Dr. S.C Jamir by calling him names like “Over ripe fruit”,  “Tiger without teeth” etc as a campaign slogan aimed at garnering some votes. The DMCC maintained that the disrespect and disregard shown by NPF leaders simply reveals that the NPF party is yet an immature and impractical political party. In this connection, the DMCC Mokokchung advised the NPF party to main some decorum and a spirit of healthy political competition.
“The NPF should also have stuck to its motto ‘Fide Non Armis’ which means ‘By Faith, not arms’, but this by-election has simply revealed their ugly face wherein female voters were assaulted, congress workers were abducted and threatened, and opposing leaders shown all kind of disrespect. At the end, all political parties owes some responsibility to the general public, and it is the hope of the Congress Mahila Mokokchung that the NPF would take the responsibility of a political party in a more sensible manner,” the release stated. Furthermore, the DMCC advised the NPF party not to conduct the 2013 election like this by-election through muscle and money power by stick to their motto ‘by faith not arms’, and let the real mandate of the people come through a free and fair poll.
