Kohima, July 18 (MExN): Advisor for Civil Administration Works Division (CAWD) and MLA Kudecho Khamo on July 17 urged the newly constituted Naga People’s Front (NPF) Public Grievances Cell to engage with the people, listen to their concerns and provide a platform for meaningful dialogue.
Addressing a meeting of the cell at the NPF central office in Kohima, Khamo, who is also its legislator in-charge, said the body had been entrusted with a significant responsibility by Chief Minister and NPF President Neiphiu Rio.
While acknowledging that it may not be possible to resolve every grievance raised by organisations, communities or individuals, Khamo said the cell must make every effort to listen, understand their concerns and engage with them through dialogue.
Providing a platform for meaningful interaction, he said, would itself be an important step towards addressing public grievances and strengthening the relationship between the party and the people.
Khamo also expressed gratitude to CM Rio for entrusting him with the responsibility of overseeing the cell and appreciated his vision behind the merger of the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) with the NPF.
He said the move had consolidated and strengthened the regional party to work for the welfare and interests of the people.
Describing the NPF as one of the oldest regional political parties in the country, Khamo said it had consistently remained the voice of the Nagas and championed their political aspirations.
He said the party had served Nagas across Nagaland, Manipur and other Naga-inhabited areas, while maintaining that the political aspirations of the Nagas remained central to its ideology. He also stressed the need to preserve Naga identity, traditions and faith.
Expressing concern over growing materialism, Khamo maintained that greed had weakened Naga unity and contributed to divisions among the people. He observed that many were placing money above culture, identity and collective political aspirations, and attributed the proliferation of various Naga political groups to greed.
Despite these challenges, he asserted that the NPF would continue to uphold and safeguard the aspirations of the Naga people. Calling for unity beyond tribal differences and economic interests, Khamo urged party members to strengthen the regional party, saying a strong NPF would strengthen the Naga voice and help protect the identity of the people.
The programme, led by Public Grievances Cell Convenor Z Neikuo Lhousa, also deliberated on the need for greater inclusivity and engagement in the interests of the party and public welfare. The establishment of a grievance redressal mechanism and other organisational matters were also dicssed, informed an NPF release.
