Mokokchung, May 1 (MExN): The Mokokchung division of the Naga People’s Front (NPF) on Friday celebrated the Moatsü festival at its office premises, with minister for Rural Development and SIRD Metsubo Jamir attending as the special guest.

Moatsü, one of the premier festivals of the Ao Naga community, is observed annually in May after the completion of sowing, and is traditionally associated with thanksgiving, prayers for a bountiful harvest, and community bonding through songs, dances and feasting.

Addressing the gathering, Jamir, who is also minister in-charge of Mokokchung district, called upon party workers to remain united and resilient in the face of challenges.

He said that just as Moatsü is considered a festival of blessings, the occasion was also significant for the party as it marked the first celebration following the merger between the NDPP and NPF.

The minister urged party leaders to strengthen the organisation and work at the grassroots level, while also emphasising the need for mobilisation to further consolidate the party.

He appreciated the organisers for successfully hosting the celebration and expressed hope that such events would continue in the years to come.

Earlier, Repameren Yaden, president of NPF Mokokchung division, delivered the welcome address. Cultural songs were presented by the party’s parent body and its women’s wing.

Moatsü greetings were also delivered by PDA member and NPF senior vice president N Bendang Jamir, NPF central vice president Lanukaba, and Meitiba Lkr, president of NPF 21 Tuli Assembly Constituency. The programme concluded with a traditional Moatsü feast.
