Dimapur, June 17 (MExN): The NSCN (IM) has imposed ‘Presidential Rule’ in the Wung Tangkhul Region (WTR) with immediate effect, citing a breakdown of stability that has rendered normal regional administration unfeasible.
The directive was issued by the Yaruiwo under Article 3, Serial No. (viii) of the Yehzabo of Nagalim, vide Presidential Order Reference No. 13/GPRN/ORD-50/Y0/26, dated June 16, 2026m, stated a press release issued by the MIP, NSCN (IM).
A team of Provisional Authorities has been constituted to discharge all administrative responsibilities in the region during this period. Veteran leader Maj Gen (Retd) Ramkathing Varah, MM, MC, a Member of the Collective Leadership, has been appointed as Convener of the Provisional Authorities, it stated.
All administrative responsibilities previously authorised to the Kilo Ministry vide Memo No. 13/GPRN/ORD-46/Y0/26 dated April 8, 2026, stand transferred to the newly constituted provisional administration team with immediate effect.
The NSCN (IM) stated the governance arrangement would remain in force until normalcy is fully restored in the WTR. The group called upon all regional officials, civil society organisations, and citizens to extend full cooperation to the Provisional Administration team to ensure peace and stability in the region.
Restricts commodity movement to Myanmar
The NSCN (IM) in a separate order has imposed an immediate restriction on “the outbound movement of all commodities, including petroleum products and their derivatives, toward Myanmar,” according to an order issued by the Yaruiwo.
The restriction was enforced vide Order No. 06/GPRN/NA/ORD-40/YO/26 dated June 15, 2026, titled “Strict monitoring along Indo-Myanmar Border.”
Under the same order, the Naga Army has been empowered and authorised to “monitor the situation and maintain strict round-the-clock surveillance along the entire length of the artificial Indo-Myanmar border line until further orders.”
It stated the notification was issued solely for public information and awareness.
