NSCN-K (Khango-Vusshe) claims raid on fake call centre in Aoyimkum

Dimapur, December 17 (MExN): The NSCN-K (Khango-Vusshe) has claimed responsibility for a raid on an alleged illegal call centre in Aoyimkum village, stating it acted on specific intelligence about organised cybercrime.

In a statement issued by its MIP on Wednesday, the group said its “Crime Monitoring Cell” conducted the operation on the night of December 15 at Aoyimkum village and arrested six individuals.

The group clarified that the raid was based on “specific input” regarding the operation of an “organised crime syndicate” running an illegal Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) or fake call centre. During the operation, six individuals were arrested along with “substantial proof and evidence of their illegal activities,” it claimed.

Upon interrogation, the accused admitted to operating the fake call centre since June 2025. “Their main modus of operandi was to make calls to vulnerable customers and lure them into divulging their bank account details and in the process siphon off with the hard earned money saved in the account of these unsuspecting customers.”

The group stated that following the confessional statements, all six accused were “released unharmed on the initiative of a civil society organization without any condition.” This was described as a “goodwill gesture in view of the festive season.”

Asserting its role as a “people’s mandated government,” the group affirmed it was “duty-bound to detect, expose and take drastic preventive measures” against such illegal activities.

It issued a stern warning to individuals or groups operating similar fake call centres “in our land” to cease operations immediately. “The NSCN-K government will deal firmly with such elements and will not hesitate to impose exemplary measures against those who persist in exploiting innocent civilians.”

It implored village authorities to “strictly monitor and check” such illegal activities within their jurisdictions to curb the “social menace.”

It further called upon “concerned state and central law agencies” to “mobilize their resources” to investigate and curb the “mushrooming” of such illegal BPOs or fake call centres. A general appeal was also made to the public to remain vigilant “so as to eradicate and uproot this evil practices from our society.”

Suspends ‘Max Naga’ for 6 months
The NSCN-K (Khango-Vusshe) has issued a suspension order against Captain Amento Sema, also known as ‘Max Naga’ of its UT-1 Region.

In a statement, the group said Sema has been suspended from active service for six months for "his unwarranted execution of a government directive on his own accord.” The action, according to the statement, was taken in the larger interest of the Nagas and to uphold an agreement reached with the Angami Youth Organization (AYO) on August 20, 2024.

“The NSCN-K is of the firm belief that this disciplinary measure against the erring cadre will reinforce internal accountability and demonstrate its commitment to honouring the understanding reached with the AYO,” it said.

It further expressed hope that the step would help restore cordial relations between the two entities and contribute to strengthening the “common political cause of the Nagas.”
