Kohima, March 11 (MExN): The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) has constituted a five-member Inner Line Regulation Commission (ILRC) with the objective of countering what it termed as “the unabated inflow of illegal immigrants into our homeland.”
The Commission will be headed by Senchumo NSN Lotha, with Kelhouniezo Yhome, Hukavi Tokheho Yepthomi, Imtiakum, and Seve R. Vadeo as members.
In a press release, the NSF stated that the ILRC will review and strengthen existing regulatory measures, monitor, assess, and propose urgent legal and administrative reforms to fortify protective barriers in close coordination with all stakeholders and civil organisations to build a robust resistance against “illegal settlements.”
According to the federation, the unregulated influx of illegal immigrants has “reached a crisis level, threatening the demographic balance, cultural heritage, and security of the Nagas.”
Such a scenario has far-reaching consequences, including economic exploitation, land alienation, and political subversion, that will “irreversibly alter the future of our people if left unchecked,” it added.
The NSF also pointed out that the ILP regime was enacted more than 150 years ago to protect and preserve indigenous communities.
However, years of political apathy and administrative failures have allowed illegal immigrants to exploit loopholes, settle unlawfully, and infiltrate the Naga homeland, pushing them to the brink of demographic subjugation, it alleged.
In this connection, the NSF urged all Nagas to rally behind its drive to combat what it deemed an “existential threat before it is too late.”
The ‘landmark decision’ to constitute the ILRC was adopted during the 4th NSF Federal Assembly held on December 4, 2024, the federation added.
