Barak FC extended their lead at the top of the ongoing Nagaland Super League (NSL) standings following Matchday 12, while Nagaland United Sports Club (NUSC) faltered and Longterok FC strengthened their position.

After the latest matches on March 8, Barak FC now leads with 23 points, followed by NUSC with 19 points and Longterok FC with 16 points.

On Saturday, after a draw in their last match, Barak FC came back strong to register an emphatic 3-1 win over Frontier Warriors FC at the Chümoukedima Football Stadium. The win solidified their hold on the top spot.

Earlier in the day, Longterok FC edged past Red Scars FC 1-0 in a hard-fought match at the same stadium, closing the gap on NUSC in the league standings to just 3 points. Kakhevi Assumi from Longterok FC scored the decisive goal in the 8th minute, earning him the Player of the Match award.

Meanwhile, NUSC suffered a setback on March 8, losing 0-1 to 27th United Football Club at the Indira Gandhi Stadium in Kohima. Despite creating multiple attacking opportunities, NUSC was unable to break through, thanks to a standout performance by 27 United FC’s goalkeeper, Widambo Rentta, who was named Player of the Match.

The battle for the second spot will be decided when NUSC and Longterok FC meet for a decisive encounter at Chümoukedima Football Stadium on March 12.
